Like conch and spiny lobster, the Key West pink shrimp live in the waters around Key West and they make it onto many of the menus in town. They have a slightly different look and taste than Maine lobster. There is a chance you might see one of these guys while snorkeling, kayaking, or scuba diving (we saw one on our eco kayaking trip with Lazy Dog Adventures). Spiny lobster live in the shallow, warm waters around Key West.

Cracked conch are strips of the conch that are breaded and fried, similar to clam strips. In conch fritters, the meat is morselized, combined with bread and seasonings, and fried, similar to a hush puppy. The meat is served several different ways. Once your food arrives, you will be glad you waited.Before we jump into where to eat in Key West, here is a quick list of what to eat in Key West. Just be sure to bring your favorite bottle of wine to savor while you wait (it is a BYOB). The kitchen is small and open so you can even watch the chef do his magic. There is usually a bit of a wait in between courses, but that is because everything is prepared and cooked right there while you wait. For our main meals, I opted for the black grouper and my husband had the filet mignon. My husband had the homemade gnocchi and I had the roasted artichoke hearts to start.
(Then again many restaurants in Key West now are very expensive - so it appears to be the new norm) Besides that one criticism the food is outstanding and worth it. Unfortunately however the prices are not mentioned, but I really think they should so you are not sticker shocked when your bill l arrives which is cash only. This time there were a few more options for both the appetizers and entrees to choose from.
